e HP 8770A arbitrary waveform synthesizer creates completely arbitrary waveform
s from dc to 50 MHz by use of a super-fast digital-to-analog converter. This ci
rcuit can plot computed-amplitude points to create totally arbitrary waveforms
using 8 ns width pulse. The HP frequency-agile technology also makes it possib
le to hop from one frequency to another in the time it takes to move to a diffe
rent sequence of 8 nanosecond pulses. The design is directly focused on signal
generator performance standards, and the arbitrary waveform synthesizer far ex
ceeds ordinary fast DAC performance in signal-to-noise ratios and harmonic gene
ration.
